Texas Hold'em Poker

The most common type of poker in many of the top casinos is the classic game of Texas Hold’em poker. This classic version of the world’s most famous card game is the game that is played on the World Poker Tour as well as ESPN’s annual World Series Of Poker. The rules are fairly simple by poker standards, here is a basic overview of those rules.

The Texas Hold’Em poker game, like most other casino games, must start with a bet or wager. In Texas Hold’em poker, this is known as “posting the blinds.” The two players to the left of the dealer are responsible for posting the blinds so that the players have something to play for.

From a standard, 52-card deck, each player is dealt two cards. Both of these cards are dealt face down. These cards are known as “hole” or “pocket” cards. At this point, betting begins. Starting with the player to the immediate left of the players who posted the blinds, each player must bet. Players may call, raise or fold when they get the chance to bet.

After the first round of betting, the dealer “burns” or discards the top card of the deck. This is done to prevent cheating in case somebody accidentally saw the top card. After burning the card, the dealer flips three cards face up onto the table. These cards are known as the “flop”. These “hole” cards, also known as community cards, can be used by any player to build or create a five-card hand. Eventually, there will be five cards that are flipped over in this fashion. Any player can use these cards.

After the flop, there is another round of betting. During this round, players can check, call, raise or fold when it is their turn to bet.
